Riverine floods occur when major rivers like the Ganga, Brahmaputra, and their tributaries swell due to heavy monsoon precipitation and glacier melt, inundating low-lying areas. Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) are a growing concern, where moraine-dammed glacial lakes burst due to increased meltwater volume or seismic activity, releasing large volumes of water and debris downstream.
