India possesses immense solar energy potential, receiving abundant sunshine for approximately 300 days a year with an average daily solar insolation of 5-7 kWh per square meter. Despite this high potential, the development and utilization of solar energy have not yet reached their desired level due to a combination of economic, technological, infrastructural, and policy challenges.

High Initial Capital Costs: Setting up solar power plants, whether utility-scale or rooftop installations, requires significant upfront investment in solar panels, inverters, mounting structures, and land acquisition. While the cost of solar technology has decreased substantially over the years, the initial capital outlay remains a barrier for many potential investors and individual consumers, especially in comparison to conventional energy sources.

Intermittency and Storage Challenges: Solar power is inherently intermittent; it is only available during daylight hours and is affected by weather conditions (clouds, rain). This variability poses challenges for grid stability and reliable power supply. To ensure continuous power, expensive battery storage solutions are required, which significantly increase the overall cost and complexity of solar projects. Without adequate storage, solar power needs to be complemented by conventional sources or other renewables.
