Challenges: Despite vast reserves and high production, India faces challenges such as the high ash content of its coal, limited reserves of high-quality coking coal (necessitating imports), environmental concerns related to mining and burning, and logistical issues in transporting coal from mines to power plants. Efforts are underway to improve coal washing, develop cleaner coal technologies, and diversify the energy mix with renewables.
