From the perspective of the Global South, globalization has presented a dual-edged sword, offering both opportunities for development and significant challenges. On the positive side, globalization has facilitated economic growth in many developing countries through increased foreign direct investment (FDI), expanded trade opportunities, and access to global markets. This has led to industrialization, job creation, and the transfer of technology and knowledge, helping some nations integrate into the global economy and lift millions out of poverty. Furthermore, globalization has fostered cultural exchange, promoting greater awareness of human rights, democracy, and environmental issues, and enabling the spread of information and communication technologies that empower citizens and connect societies.

However, the impact has also been critically challenging. Many countries in the Global South have experienced increased economic inequality, both within and between nations, as the benefits of globalization have often been unevenly distributed. Developing countries frequently find themselves in a subordinate position in global supply chains, vulnerable to exploitation of labor and resources, and subject to the volatility of global financial markets. The emphasis on free trade can undermine nascent domestic industries, while structural adjustment programs imposed by international financial institutions have sometimes led to cuts in social spending. Globalization can also lead to a 'race to the bottom' in terms of environmental regulations and labor standards. Culturally, it can result in the erosion of local traditions and languages due to the dominance of Western cultural products. Moreover, the increased interconnectedness has made these nations more susceptible to global crises, such as pandemics or economic downturns, originating elsewhere. Thus, while globalization has offered pathways to progress, it has also reinforced existing power imbalances and created new vulnerabilities for the Global South, necessitating a more equitable and inclusive global governance framework.
